Beyond Reynalds Cross

Students can remain with us to the end of year 14 (the July of the year they turn 19 years old).  There is also an option for transition at the end of year 11, although the majority of our students stay on until Year 14.

One of the Reynalds Cross subject areas is called ‘ my future’ and lessons/activities linked to this subject provide our students with experiences of post school options through work tasters, college visits, work experience and positive alternatives to work.  All students will access these activities appropriate to their needs.

Our students usually progress onto placements that are either educational or of a social care nature. There is also the option to access both with a blended placement. Our local colleges which parents should look to first include Solihull College and South and City College. If these are unable to meet the needs of the young person then independent specialist colleges can be considered i.e. Queen Alexandra College in Harborne and Hereward College in Tile Hill. More information about these and other specialist colleges can be found in our destinations guide.  Parents are encouraged to look at as many options as possible.

Social care based activities and provisions include in-house day services Green Acres/The Hive at Park View Day Centre.  If they are unable to meet the needs of the young person then other, private day services can be considered i.e. Social Life Opportunities (SoLO), Satori House and Newlands Bishop Farm or support form a Personal Assistant (PA).  Post school options also include supported living opportunities. Your Transition Social Worker will be able to advise on the options available.

The local offer is the Authority’s publication of all provision they expect to be available across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area with SEND.  Information about this can be found on the ‘solihull.gov’ website.

We recognise that transition from Reynalds Cross can be a challenging time for all involved and we have our own Transition Family Support Worker, Janine Jenkins who can offer support throughout the process. She works alongside other professionals involved in transition including social care, to ensure that parents understand the process and know what is expected from them.
